- WEEK 23: Period 69: UNIT 9 : FESTIVALS AROUND THE WORLD Lesson 1: GETTING STARTED A Tulip Festival Class Date of teaching Attendance 7B I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students are expected to achieve the following objectives: 1. Knowledge: *Vocabulary: +Vocabulary: Lexical items related to the topic “Festivals”: names of different festivals around the world + New words: folk dance (n), costume (n), float (n), parade (n), feast (n). fireworks display (n) * Pronunciation: - Pronounce the new words correctly: fantasy (n); horror film (n); documentary (n), comedy (n), exchange, review * Grammar: + Grammar: Yes / No questions 2. Competencies: a. General competencies: - Group work and independent working, pair work, linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence. - Be co-operative and supportive in pair work and teamwork. - Actively join in class activities. b. Specific competencies: - To introduce topic of the lesson “Festivals around the world”. To practice listening and reading. - An overview about the topic “Festivals around the world” - Lexical items related to the topic “Festivals”: names of different festivals around the world. - express disappointment; - read for specific information about an unusual festival; - talk about a festival that someone joined; 3. Qualities: - Ss interested in the festivals around the world and in Viet Nam. - Develop awareness of the festivals around the world . Develop self-study skills. - Ss have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, and pairwork, cooperative learning and working. II. PREPARATIONS Teacher: Text book, laptop, loudspeaker, projector Students: Text books, studying equipment’s . III. PROCEDURE ACTIVITY 1: WARM-UP (5’-IW) 1. Aim:
- - To create an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson; - To lead into the new unit. 2. Content: To have some warm-up activities to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to inspire Ss to warm up to the subject and new lesson. 3. Products: Having a chance to speak English. 4. Implementation: - Teacher instructs - Sts do as required TEACHER AND STUDENTS' CONTENTS ACTIVITIES Step 1: Task delivering - Chatting Step 2: Task performance + Greeting + Greeting + Revision on previous lessons / + Revision on previous lessons Chatting - T_Ss. * Teacher shows the picture of the Tulip Festival and asks students some related questions: - What can you see in the picture? - Can you guess the name of the festival? - Have you ever heard of this festival? If yes, what do you know about it? - Students raise hands to answer the questions. - Teacher and students discuss the questions. - Teacher accepts all students’ questions. + Students (Ss) listen to the teacher’s instructions carefully and learn how to do the tasks. OR: - Review the previous unit before Ss open their books by asking them to name all words they remember from the previous unit. Step 3: Report and discussion - Sts work in group to discuss - Sts join in the discussion Step 4: Judgement - T summarizes the discussion and leads to Activity 2.
- ACTIVITY 2: KNOWLEDGE FORMATION (15'-IW/ PW) 1. Aim: - To set the context for the introductory conversation; - To introduce the topic of the unit. - To help Ss deeply understand the text. 2. Content: Learn some new words . Read the conversation and find out new words. Focus on topic of the lesson, grammar points Read the conversation. Choose the correct answer. 3. Products: Knowing more new words. Understanding the conversation; topic of the lesson, grammar points Ss understanding more the content of the conversation. Get more information 4. Implementation: TEACHER AND CONTENTS STUDENTS' ACTIVITIES Step 1: Task delivering - T sets the scene/ context for the listening and reading. Step 2: Task performance 1.
